Our photo database documents the independent development of steam locomotive manufacturing in the German Democratic Republic. The collection focuses on the new steam locomotive designs produced from the 1950s onwards by VEB Lokomotivbau Karl Marx (LKM) in Babelsberg—locomotives specifically optimized for the GDR’s economic conditions and available fuel types.
